Sustainable mobility at Salone del Mobile 2010

From 13 to 20 april 2010, the Iuav Faculty of Design and Arts presents some of the best projects of its students in 4 location during the Salone del Mobile of Milan.
Two of these are Move – In movimento, alternative solutions on sustainable mobility and Slow Mobility, a different nature of motion.

Ecodesign book

The book Ecodesign written by Silvia Barbero and Brunella Cozzo is in bookshops.
It is full of photos and informative texts and presents a series of fascinating and innovative projects about environmental sustainability.

Divided into eight categories (household appliances, forniture, light & Energy, transportation, clothing and accessories, packaging, graphic design and toys), the products show the incredible results achieved worldwide, the latest design in service of sustainability.
The appeal of these projects breaks the common expression used for environmental sustainability.

Besides reading categories intersects the possibility of critical reading for eco guide lines, which were explained in the first part of the book and, again, through an icon for the rest of the book.
It is available in english, german and french and in italian, portuguese and spanish.

Bamboo wins a Special Mention at the Lucky Strike T. Designer Award 2009

BAMBOO is a modular system for outdoor lighting that uses solar energy and sustainable materials and technologies.
Designed by Francesco Sartor for his undergraduate degree at University Iuav of Venice, this project received a special Mention at the Lucky Strike T. Designer Award 2009.

BAMBOO uses the Sphelar photovoltaic technology of Kyosemi Company (Japan), a modular system and a limited number of simple components to follow the demands of environmental sustainability.

The Lucky Strike T. Designer Award is one of the most important design award and it’s organized by Raymond Loewy Foundation Italy.
The V edition of this award involved over 200 students and, in addition to the winner, have been awarded 10 honorable mentions.
The selected works will be on display until 17 March at Spazio Risonanze in Rome.

The book more E less/nuovi stili di vita e di consumo, edited by Anna Catania, is on bookshop.
The book presents the results of the more E less conference organized in 2008 by the Department of Design at the Faculty of Architecture of the University of Palermo (Sicily – Italy).

The book considers issues relating to waste reduction, energy conservation and use of renewable energies, development of local resources, use of recycled and recyclable materials with particular attention to products, packaging and sustainable materials for the territory of Sicily.

Fino al 31 marzo 2010 sono aperte le iscrizioni alla conferenza Sustainability in design: Now! che si terrà in India, a Bangalore, dal 29 settembre al 1 ottobre 2010.
La conferenza sarà un’occasione per condividere le conoscenze e le esperienze più recenti nella progettazione sostenibile di prodotti, servizi e sistemi e per promuovere le attività di ricerca, didattica e pratica nell’ottica della sostenibilità.

The Sustainability in Design: Now! conference is a platform for sharing the latest knowledge and experiences in product, service and system design, to promote sustainable systems thinking in design education, research and practice communities. The conference approach is to look at various stakeholders in this arena – designers, design educators and design researchers – as a unique learning community. The objective is the creation of a new ethos, within such a community, enabling all possible synergies and fruitful processes of knowledge and know-how osmosis and cross-fertilisation.
This conference is promoted and organized as the conclusive event of the LeNS – Learning Network on Sustainability – project, funded by EU under the Asia-link program, that aims at the development and diffusion of design for sustainability in design institutions.

There is no conference fee and proceedings will be published (with ISBN).
